One of my very favourite things to do in London is to walk along Regent's Canal from Islington on a Saturday morning and end up at the delightful Broadway Market (between London Fields and Regent's Canal in Hackney). I love love love Broadway Market. It's fabulously foodie without being pretentious about it, and it's alternative enough to make you feel a little boring in a t'shirt and jeans, but no so alternative you're suspicious of what's really in the gooey chocolate brownies. There are some excellent food stalls, selling both food to take home and food to eat on the spot. There's also some great craft, really creative jewellery and vintage clothes stalls. The shops and cafes lining the street look both interesting and popular but to be honest I've always been too distracted by the market to notice!
You smell the delicious mushroom sarnies from this stall long before you see them. They taste every bit as good as they smell!
There are several stalls selling cheeses, breads and cakes.

We also love the butcher who is usually at the canal end of the market, near Violet's cupcakes - they have great cuts for slow cooking. We also love the Vietnamese coffee stall with its delicious coffee (espresso with sweetened condensed milk - what's not to like?) and little stools and tables - they weren't there today - come back!

Cupcakes from Violet - Y is quite the aficionado of the cupcake and she rates these as some of the best she's tasted in London. The lavender ones are DIVINE and the girls working there are lovely!

I'd never had a craving for a juicy crisp apple until I saw this gorgeous crate!

(they also sell dips and excellent dukkah).

We often buy our extra virgin olive oil from this stall - it's lovely.
